Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia, a company belonging to the Baltic Capital Group, has completed the first stage of the process of adapting its procedures to the international NQA-1 standard, which is applicable in the global nuclear industry. The company has been selected by Westinghouse Electric Company as one of the partners prepared to participate in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland in the municipality of Choczewo.
Obtaining the NQA-1 qualification opens up the opportunity for Energomontaż Północ-Gdynia to enter the global supply chain of AP1000 reactor technology and participate in nuclear projects implemented around the world.
The first stage of the certification process included the development of procedures in key areas such as: quality assurance, equipment inspection, design and technical documentation, and corrective actions. The next phase is the preparation for the production of the so-called mock-up, i.e. a trial module of the nuclear island – it will include the development of a production plan, detailed technological instructions and workshop drawings. The completion of all three stages will enable the company to apply for orders in the Polish Nuclear Power Plants project and in other nuclear investments in the world.
“We support Polish companies to enable them to join the value chain on a competitive basis not only within the conventional, but also the nuclear part of the power plant. The completion of the first phase of adaptation to the NQA-1 standard by another company, additionally representing Pomerania, is clear evidence that the preparation of our domestic industry and the development of specialized competencies for the construction of a nuclear power plant is gaining momentum”, said Marek Woszczyk, President of the Management Board of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe.
“Completing the first phase of NQA-1 qualification is not only a confirmation of the high quality of the team’s work, but also proof that we are ready to follow the path of global standards. This stage opens up the possibility for us to continue the process smoothly, and in the future to participate in the project of building the first Polish nuclear power plant. This is a huge challenge, but also a great opportunity for our Group,” emphasizes Remigiusz Paszkiewicz, President of the Management Board of the Baltic Industrial Group.
“The implementation of NQA-1 is an investment in the future of our company. Thanks to this, we join the group of companies that can become part of the global supply chain for nuclear energy. For Energomontaż Północ Gdynia, this is a milestone – both in the development of competences and in building its position on the market. It is also our contribution to the long-term energy security of Polish – says Artur Sobolewski, President of the Management Board of Energomontaż Północ Gdynia.
“Over 20 companies – both Polish and international – are successively implementing the NQA-1 standard. Six Polish participants have achieved significant progress: almost all have already completed the first stage, which involves creating their NQA-1 quality program. Furthermore, half of them have proceeded to the second of three implementation phases, focusing on developing technical documentation in accordance with the new program and subsequently producing a mock-up. Finally, these companies will be included in our Approved Suppliers List, which will enable their participation in projects in Poland, across Europe, and, where commercially justified, on a global scale – said Sean Jones, Senior Director, Global Supply Chain, Westinghouse.
Thanks to the implementation of the NQA-1 standard, Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia joins a small group of companies in Poland prepared to participate in one of the most technologically demanding industrial sectors in the world.
